Jason Morales of Fayetteville Wins 2006 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Fayetteville's Jason Morales (UNC-Pembroke) took home the 2006 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game Home Run Derby crown Monday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

Morales tied Martinsville's Matt Leake in the Championship round…each batter hitting six homers in that round to force an overtime period. In the overtime, both Leake and Morales had three outs and after Leake didn't connect on one, Morales only needed one to win and drove a ball deep to left-center field for the win.

There were 16 batters, eight for the National and eight for the American. Batters were given eight (8) outs in all three rounds, with the top three batters per club advancing to the second round. Then the top two hitters, Leake and Morales, advanced to the Championship round.
