Columbia Named Host Site For 2007 CPL All-Star Game

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today that the 2007 All-Star Game will be hosted by the Columbia Blowfish on July 17, 2007 at Capital City Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.

The All-Star Game festivities will begin on Monday, July 16, when the Blowfish will host the All-Star Fan Fest. One of the big draws in the past for Fan Fest is that of the All-Star Home Run Derby, which gives CPL All-Stars a chance to battle it out to see who has the most power with the bat. Fans will also have the chance to meet both CPL All-Star teams during that time.

“We are extremely excited to announce Columbia as the host city for our 2007 All-Star Game,” said League President and Commissioner Pete Bock. “The City of Columbia welcomed the Blowfish with open arms last season, making it a very special and memorable time. Bill (Shanahan), Michael (Savit), Skip (Anderson) and their whole staff have done a tremendous job in making the Blowfish an instant hit. We feel that Columbia hosting our All-Star Game will be just as successful as the Blowfish have come to be!”

On Tuesday, July 17, the All-Stars will be treated to a special luncheon before a busy afternoon and evening that includes Major League scout day activities and then the playing of the 2007 CPL All-Star Game.

“It has been 15 years since Capital City Stadium has hosted an All-Star game,” said Blowfish President Bill Shanahan, who was General Manager of the Columbia Mets of the South Atlantic League when the game was played in front of a full house at “The Cap”. “We are very excited to host the summer classic and I believe the fans are in for two days of great summer collegiate baseball action and fun!”
